Rice & Beans Foundation was founded in August 2007 on a medical mission trip organized by Cristo Sana to Granada, Nicaragua. On this trip we not only provided much needed medical care, but also delivered rice and beans to some of the poorest families in the area. We had $500 in donations collected over several months by school children in New Orleans. The donations were collected from the survivors of hurricane Katrina demonstrating a commitment to the wellbeing of people around the world even while rebuilding their own homes.
The ingredients are simple and the effect so powerful. In a matter of moments after a simple suggestion to take up collections for rice and beans in our own hometowns, the words Rice & Beans Foundation was spoken for the first time. Ideas exchanged and plans made, we set out to create our vision and make an immediate direct impact.
